Garbage Disposal Issues We Handle

Most disposal problems are quick fixes once you know what to look for. We install and service InSinkErator, Badger, and Waste King across Atlanta kitchens.

Jammed or Stuck

Disposal won't turn at all and the reset button is not working. We clear the obstruction and check the flywheel.

Urgent

Leaking Underneath

Water dripping from the bottom of the housing usually means a failed seal. The unit needs replacement.

Hums but Won't Spin

Motor runs but blades stay still. Usually a jam or a seized flywheel. We diagnose before recommending replacement.

Persistent Odor

Smell deep inside the unit that no rinse fixes. We deep-clean the grind chamber and splash guard.

Replacement of Failed Units

Old or burned-out disposals replaced with a matched or upgraded InSinkErator, Badger, or Waste King.

New Installs for Remodels

New disposal installs for kitchen remodels, including dishwasher connection and electrical hookup.

Won't Turn On at All

Dead unit with no hum. Could be the reset button, the wall switch, or a failed motor. We test and tell you which.

Urgent

Clogged Drain Line

Water backing up into the sink from the disposal side. We clear the trap and branch line under the cabinet.

Garbage Disposal Atlanta Questions

My garbage disposal won't turn on. What should I try first?

Press the red reset button on the bottom of the unit, then try the switch again. If it still does not run, check the breaker. If it hums but does not spin, turn it off, do not stick anything down it, and call us. Those last two checks fix a real percentage of service calls before we ever leave the shop.

How much does it cost to replace a garbage disposal in Atlanta?

Replacement is flat-rate and depends on the unit you choose (Badger, standard InSinkErator, or higher horsepower) and whether the existing plumbing and electrical are reusable. We quote the total in writing before starting.

Is a leaking garbage disposal worth repairing?

If it is leaking from the top sink flange, sometimes yes. If it is leaking from the bottom housing, the internal seal has failed and the unit needs to be replaced. We will show you which one it is.

What size disposal do I need?

For a typical household, a 1/2 or 3/4 horsepower unit handles daily use. Larger households or homes that grind tougher scraps benefit from 1 horsepower. We size it to your sink and habits, not the most expensive option on the shelf.

Can I run a dishwasher into a new garbage disposal?

Yes. New disposals ship with a knockout plug that has to be removed before the dishwasher hose is connected. We handle that during install and confirm there are no leaks on the discharge side.

How long does a garbage disposal last?

Most units last 8 to 12 years. Hard water, bones, fibrous foods, and grease shorten that. If yours is older than 10 years and acting up, replacement is usually cheaper long-term than chasing repairs.
